Now you have an opportunity to practice right along with me. This child who unconscious and choking needs thirty chest compressions. One third of the depth of the chest, 100 to 120 compressions per minute. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30. Head tilt, chin lift. If you see an object, sweep it out. If you don't see an object, try a rescue breath. NO chest rise and fall, reposition the airway. Try another rescue breath, pinching the nose shut. No chest rise and fall. Repeat the thirty compressions. 1 ,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29,30. Open the airway with a head tilt chin lift. Open the mouth. You see the object, you sweep in and pull it out. Attempt a rescue breath. You see chest rise and fall. You deliver a second rescue breath. Patient is not breathing on their own. Patient is not moving. We continue with our compressions. Remember, we have already activated EMS or called 911 so we are going to continue doing chest compressions and rescue breathing until help arrives or someone comes in that can take over for us.
